Speakeasy Research

Detailed below are the highlights of the research conducted on behalf of the Speakeasy site. Linked at the bottom is the full case study.

Speakeasy Research Study
Persona - Jon

Click to view the research plan for Speakeasy. While this site was created for my UX Design Certificate course, this is the study would be conducted to gain insights and themes into users' wants and needs. We conducted an unmoderated user study set on User Testing where a survey is given and if users pass the questions, they will qualify to test the website. We had students testing the site to give insight from our main user base.

Jon is a persona created to reflect one of the main user bases for Speakeasy, students preparing for college and beyond.

Persona - Selena

Selena is a persona created to reflect a slightly different user base. Older students/adults preparing for the job force or simply seeking skills to improve their professional presentation skills.

The initial mockups included early designs of a logo for the site but the consensus was that it crowded the screen and added nothing in terms of usability. The logo was changed as seen here, but later scrapped due to negative feedback.

Early Mockups
usability findings

Three main themes from the research are shown here. Initially, the menu did not include links that were easily clickable. For example, the word "Home" was linked to the homepage, but the home icon was not.

Mockups were edited to better reflect user preferences.

Mockups
Accessibility

One important aspect of any new site, especially one in education, is the accessibility aspect. Being inclusive to all users is a very important aspect of design for me.

The hope would be to market the site to schools and companies looking to set up students and employees for success.
